by Kiara Byrd
—after Audre Lorde’s “Coping”
I have been drowning for days
nothingness
fills my brain
a small sphere
of knowledge entered
the void.
A small hummingbird
in my window
is singing out praises
I wanted to hear
when I think about why
I never can,
every day is different still I
never
can beat the rain.
